Lieve Kauwenberghs is a visual artist, researcher and former landscape architect, whose paintings circle around the manifold interrelationships existing in our ever-changing landscapes. In times when these landscapes become evidence of fragmented habitats and stressed ecosystems, Kauwenberghs’ painting process is a way to explore and understand the ways landscapes have held and can still hold together. This exploration leads through landscape structures, landscape ecology, and the cultural and perceptual aspects of our holistic environment. Kauwenberghs is especially intrigued by what landscape structures and patterns tell us about us, and her artistic practice can also be seen as a never-ending search of what is immanently present in certain landscape assemblages that awaken a deeply rooted connection in us. This is also the subject of her ongoing doctoral research at PXL-MAD School of Arts in Hasselt (BE).
